Caroline Hirons Skincare Must-Haves

Caroline Hirons Skincare Must-Haves

I was listening to Caroline Hirons answer personal questions, one of which was "what are your top five skincare essentials?".  She listed five really important skincare products that I've talked about below:

1. Cleansing Balm.

Cleansing Balms cut through make up, oil and SPF leaving it hydrated and soft. I'd avoid those that are high in solid waxes, usually those in pots.

Melting Cleansing Balm™ is our No. 1 best selling item. Full of Sweet Almond Oil and Echium Oil, it leaves skin clean, hydrated and baby soft.

2. Acid Toner

Acid Toners remove the surface dead (and grey) skin cells. They ensure that skin is brighter, clearer and more translucent. They soften signs of ageing and help control acneic or spot prone skins.  I'd avoid those that strip the skin opting for little and often approach to exfoliating.

Gentle Exfoliating Toner™ contains maximum levels of acids to give effective exfoliation, hyaluronic acid to ensure the skin does not feel stripped and natural betaine which is softening. All the benefits of standard acid toners without the aggressive ouch! Use morning OR night.

3. Retinol

Retinol has been proven, over and over, to make skin look more youthful by increasing cell turnover. This is not the same as exfoliation. I'd avoid super aggressive ones that leave your skin flaky and raw. Evidence shows that lower level formulas on a more regular basis are better than whacking on the 1% or 2% concentrations (USA) and then watching as your skin falls off.

Retinol Resurfacing Treatment™ has the EU maximum levels of retinol at 0.3% and is uniquely combined with the powerful peptide Matrixyl and very effective anti-inflammatory's, so that you get all the retinol action without the red-raw peeling

4. Vitamin C

So important, Vitamin C boost collagen synthesis which means it firms skin and helps it keep it's bounce. In addition is it a brilliant anti-oxidant and the skin is seriously brightened. Avoid Vitamin C skincare that is not encapsulated as it does degenerate over time.

Treatment Toner™ contains encapsulated Vitamin C. It is brightening, boosts collagen and with hyaluronic acid, micro aglae and betaine, it is also hydrating and softening. Use morning OR night.

5. SPF

You all know that SPF moisturiser is the very least you should be doing to protect your skin from early ageing. This is a Just Do It moment or in the words of my late boss ....JFDI!  And if you use Retinol at night, it is even more important to use an SPF moisturiser.

Youth Preservation Moisturiser™ SPF20 is a high intensity moisturiser with strong antioxidant action and robust SPF protection. It also contains the super-peptide Matrixyl to address skin ageing and three different molecular weights of Hyaluronic Acid, for deep level hydration, surface smoothing and prevention of spots.

I would also add the following two essentials:

6. Anti-inflammatory, skin brightening Face Serum

Ageing, spots, rosacea, psoriasis, eczema, acne, redness, irritation, sensitivity, sunburn, UVA/B damage, pollution... they all have associated inflammation.  Use a rich face serum that is high in anti-inflammatories and that are used in clinically-tested concentrations. Avoid face serums that have super high concentrations of silicone but not much else in the way of active ingredients. There is no need to avoid silicone altogether.

Iconic Youth Serum™, with high concentrations of Echium Oil (a plant source of anti-inflammatory that is many times more effective than even fish oils) mean it is intensely soothing and calming. So, even sensitive and acneic skins can benefit from high performance active ingredients. is the best face serum to address all signs of skin ageing from hydration to elasticity, radiance to plumpness, dark spots to lines.

7. Eye Cream

Eye Cream is a must from early on. It is significantly thinner skin and the first place we show lines, dryness, millia (white spots), dark circles (thin skin shows the blood network beneath). Get going on eye cream early on.

Intensely Youthful Eye Cream™ is in my personal top 3 products for good reason.  It brightens, tightens, hydrates, reduces puffiness, dark circles and lines.

Together these 7 skincare products cost £189.50 (most high end serums that you are reading about cost that and more on their own) from the MERUMAYA® website.  Register and you earn MERUMAYA® Money to redeem against future purchases.
